Description

The British Grand Prix was held on July 18, 1976, in Kent. The battle on the race track was fierce with season greats Nikki Lauda facing off against James Hunt. During the race, Lauda’s teammate Regazzoni decided to gain the upper hand due to Hunt’s poor start and accidentally rear-ended Lauda’s vehicle, spinning him and breaking his wheel.

Regazzoni was then hit by several cars, and Hunt’s McLaren was eliminated from the race, so he hurried to the pits to claim his spare racer, but due to official intervention it was determined that racers could only race in the car they started with and so Hunt climbed back into his McLaren and was determined to finish the race.

Lauda and Hunt ended up in a fearsome battle on the track, pacing each other, but on the 45th lap, Hunt blazed past his competition, partly due to a faulty gearbox on Lauda’s car from Regazzoni’s impact. The P34 Tyrrell, driven by Scheckter was in 4th Place, and with Regazzoni out of the way managed to obtain the last spot on the podium.

Tensions flared following the race due to the appeals from other teams claiming that it was unfair for Hunt to have been allowed to compete given his poor start at the beginning of the race and the fact that he hadn’t even completed the first lap. Hunt was disqualified, and Lauda took 1st Place with Scheckter in 2nd place, and John Watson taking 3rd.

This impressive 1976 British GP Triple Pack features 3 beautifully constructed slot cars from Scalextric based on the McLaren M23, the McLaren 312T, and the Tyrrell P34.
